MEET THE HIVES!

We like all our hives to have names. They have different personalities depending on the pheromones of the queen that regulate the hive. It helps when talking about the bees and making notes about hive status.

THE SEVEN C’S

The Seven C’s is a painted pine hive. She is currently turquoise ombre. This hive is named for the Cheevers Family.

COUNT RUGEN

Count Rugen is a painted pine hive. She is white with yellow hexagons. She is named after Count Rugen from the Princess Bride movie. This hive was won at the 3rd annual Festival of the Honey Bee.

XENO

Xeno is a painted pine hive. This stunning hive is beautifully painted with pale and bright yellows, and branch and leaf décor. She is named after the alien queen in the Alien movies, full name Xenomorph. This hive was won at the 1st annual Festival of the Honey Bee.

ROSIE

Rosie was our first hive. She is made of pure untreated cedar. It weathers very nicely and keeps other pests to a minimum. She is named after Calliou’s little sister from the animated kids program Calliou.

BLUE

Blue is a painted pine hive. She is a solid sky blue. She is named after the main Velociraptor from the Jurassic World movies and for the hive color.

MARY REBECCA

Mary Rebecca is a memorial hive celebrating the life of a a beloved baby girl. She will never be forgotten and this hive stands as a tribute to her. She is decorated with a light blue base with fluffy white clouds. A simple halo and her name adorn the front.

THE LOVE BUG

The Love Bug is covered in hearts because home is where the heart is for these bees. This hive is sponsored by Natalie who’s love of nature and giving heart made this part of our bee yard.

SALINE QUEEN

The Saline Queen and Saline Dream were hive boxes that were distributed to interested people in the community to decorate during the pandemic. Each box was created with a different theme and idea and we are honored to have them in the bee yard.

This colorful painted hive was designed and created by several students at Greenhills School in Ann Arbor. Their generous sponsorship and beautiful hive shows their commitment to giving back to their community and being a part of the solution!

The Sewing Bee Hive is a collaborative effort of Suzie, Nancy and Michealine.  These crafty ladies are sponsoring this hive they decorated in cute notions and quilt blocks giving the bees a hive that will keep them in stitches.
